Frequently Asked Questions
WHAT IS WELLBEING SUPPORT?
Wellbeing support is provided by a range of trusted adults at Â鶹ÊÓƵ Cove School. This support assists students with a range of concerns including, conflict resolution, academic, family or personal matters. For many students, confidentially exploring issues to find workable strategies and solutions can be invaluable.
While Wellbeing Support is available for all students, it remains the choice of the student if they would like this assistance. Wellbeing staff are educators who understand the school environment with all its complexities as well asÌý the developmental stages of different learners.Ìý
Should students require support for specific psychological or medical issues, we encourage referral to a GP or a mental health professional.
WHAT CAN I TALK ABOUT?
Wellbeing staff are available to support with issues big or small. Sometimes life events affect mood and resilience, so having these conversations has great benefit in getting back on track.
Sometimes students cannot articulate the specific problem. That’s OK too!Ìý Talking about feelings and actions can help find a positive way forward.Ìý
Should matters be raised that are illegal or pose a serious safety concern, the Wellbeing Team member will explain the process to the student.
HOW MUCH SUPPORT IS AVAILABLE?
While every student’s situation is unique, wellbeing supports are available for concerns or issues that impact learning or engagement at school.Ìý
For psychological support, referrals can be made to the InSchool Psychology Service with parent permission. This service operates one day a week through a priority based waiting list.
Students who require more intense and specialised supports are encouraged to seek these through a GP or Health professional.
WHAT ABOUT CONFIDENTIALITY?
Wellbeing Support is confidential. This means that Wellbeing staff do not talk to others about issues without the student’s consent.
There are some exceptions to this if there are concerns about illegal activity or safety. The Wellbeing staff member will let students know if they are concerned about this.Ìý
WHAT RECORDS TO WELLBEING STAFF KEEP?
Each student has a single student file which contains a history of educational records throughout schooling. If students change schools within the governement sector, this file transfers with them.
Non- confidential, relevant information for staff to know is shared through Daymap; the school’s Learner Management System.
Confidential notes from Wellbeing Support are not held in the single student file.Ìý These are stored securely with the Wellbeing Team and only available to the Principal or their delegate on request.
